Founder
I am, Rishi Kumar
Balmaitri Shishu Sansthan Trust is dedicated to empowering rural communities in Yamkeshwar, and beyond through education, women’s empowerment, and environmental conservation. Guided by our motto — “Save Child, Save Village, Save Nature” — we strive to nurture the roots of change where it matters most: in the hearts of women, the minds of children, and the soul of our natural world..
OUR programmes
to save child, to save village and to save nature
“We believe saving a child begins with quality education, digital access, and healthcare.
We empower villages by strengthening women — the true foundation of rural life.
We protect nature by preserving water, nurturing land, and planting trees.
In the hills of Uttarakhand, our mission is simple — to uplift life, from roots to future.”

Active Users
Balmaitri Shishu Sansthan Junior High School was established in 1990 to provide high quality education in English medium at low cost to the rural children who were forced to study in Hindi medium schools or go to the city to study in English schools. Because of the school, rural students have been able to get education at the level of city schools while sitting at home, which has stopped migration to a great extent. The aim of our school is not just to educate children but also to develop them holistically beyond bookish knowledge.
computer education
0+ Enrolled Students
“The only dedicated Computer Education & Training Center in the block—empowering not just our school students, but also youth from neighboring villages. Equipped with state-of-the-art computers and up-to-date software, the center connects learners to the digital age and opens doors to modern education through the power of technology and the internet.”
children home
A Second Home for Young Learners
“Children’s Home is more than just a hostel—it’s a sanctuary for students from remote and rural areas who would otherwise be deprived of education due to lack of local infrastructure or financial hardships. It provides a nurturing environment where children from all backgrounds—some paying full fees, others partially, and many staying through sponsored camps—live, learn, and grow together. By day, they receive formal education at our school; by night, the Children’s Home becomes a space for personal development through yoga, music, art, craft, and guided prayer. With the support of compassionate volunteers, it truly becomes a second home—full of hope, care, and opportunity.”
🌍 Global Support, Local Impact
Volunteers from across the world—America, Japan, Australia, and more—live at the hostel and work hand-in-hand with our NGO. They teach in classrooms, support educational expenses (including travel), and guide children in drama, music, and social campaigns. These activities are later performed in nearby villages to raise awareness on important issues like education, hygiene, child rights, and environmental care.
🤝 Together, we follow our mission: Save Child, Save Village, Save Nature.
🚌 A Journey of 100 Kilometers
Bringing Education to the Forgotten Corners
Every day, two dedicated school buses of Balmaitri Shishu Sansthan travel over 100 kilometers across rugged rural terrain, hills, and remote villages to ensure that no child is left behind due to lack of access to education.
These buses are not just vehicles—they are lifelines of hope, carrying over 50 students from some of the most isolated regions where proper schools, quality education, and learning infrastructure are virtually nonexistent.
🌄 Bridging the Distance Between Dreams and Opportunity
Our buses reach deep into interior hamlets, where families live in financial hardship and education is often a distant dream. Through this daily commute:
- 📚 Children from tribal and remote villages can now attend school regularly.
- 👧👦 A mix of students—some pay full transportation fees, some contribute partially, and many travel entirely free of cost.
- 🧑🏫 Access to quality education is no longer restricted by geography or poverty.
🤝 You Can Drive Change – Sponsor a Child’s Transport
To continue and expand this vital mission, we invite compassionate individuals and organizations to:
- 🚍 Sponsor transportation for one or more students who cannot afford even the minimal cost.
- 💰 Support the salaries of our dedicated bus drivers, so that more children can be accommodated without worrying about transportation expenses.
- 🌟 Help us increase the number of buses and routes, enabling more children from remote villages to access a world-class education.
🌱 Light a Life With Education
Every kilometer our bus travels is a journey toward empowerment. Every student who boards it is a child closer to breaking the cycle of ignorance and poverty.
Your support can help us turn these daily journeys into lifelong transformations.
🌌 Kacchapi
The World-Class Science Lab Empowering Rural Innovation
“In the heart of our rural campus, “Kacchapi”, the Science Lab Block of Balmaitri Shishu Sansthan, stands as a symbol of futuristic learning and innovation. Named after the ancient veena symbolizing knowledge and resonance, Kacchapi bridges tradition and modernity. What makes this lab truly exceptional is its international collaboration—fueled by the vision and support of a former NASA scientist who generously contributes tools, gadgets, and expertise from America.
This lab is not just a room of instruments—it is a gateway to the world of science, robotics, space research, and environmental technology, right in the lap of rural Uttarakhand. Students of our junior high school gain hands-on experience with scientific models, real-world experiments, and project-based learning rarely found even in urban schools.
💡 Transforming Rural Education Through Innovation
As part of our NGO’s core mission—“Save the Child, Save the Village, Save the Nature”—Kacchapi plays a vital role in:
- 🌱 Empowering rural students with exposure to global scientific thinking.
- 🌍 Promoting eco-conscious innovation in alignment with our environmental goals.
- 👩🔬 Inspiring the next generation of scientists, researchers, and problem-solvers from marginalized regions.
- 🚀 Introducing concepts like solar energy, water conservation technologies, robotics, and astronomy through interactive tools and real-time learning.
🌿 A Rare Boon for Rural India
In most parts of India—urban or rural—students only see science in textbooks. But here, our students build, touch, question, and innovate. From creating working models of windmills to understanding the mechanics of space shuttles, Kacchapi becomes a playground of possibilities.
This initiative is a testament to our belief that rural children deserve the best global opportunities, and with the right support, they can lead India’s scientific and technological future.
sponser’s child for education
🌿 Sponsor a Child, Shape a Future 🌿
More than 500 children from remote villages of Uttarakhand have received free English-medium education, computer literacy, and medical care through our Sponsor a Child initiative.
These children come from families living below the poverty line — daily wage laborers, single mothers, and parents struggling to meet even basic needs.
Education is a distant dream for them — unless someone like you steps in.
There are still many bright, deserving children waiting for a chance to learn, grow, and thrive.
Your support can turn their struggles into strength, their hopes into reality.
📚 For a small monthly donation, you can sponsor a child and cover their school fees, books, uniforms, and medical care.

🌸 Women Empowerment Council
Uniting Women for Rural Revival
Balmaitri Shishu Sansthan Trust proudly introduces the Women Empowerment Council — a united platform for rural and regional women’s groups to collaborate on self-reliance projects that strengthen families, villages, and communities.
This initiative empowers women through skill training, entrepreneurship, leadership development, and social awareness programs. By coming together, women not only uplift their households but also drive positive change in their society.
Our goal is to transform mindsets, inspire confidence, and build a future where every woman can live with dignity, independence, and purpose.
💫 Empowered Women, Stronger Villages
Let’s create a movement of women-led progress — where rural women lead the way in shaping a stable, self-reliant, and sustainable future.
🌺 Save the Child. Save the Village. Save Nature.

🎭 Puppet & Drama Workshop for Rural Awareness
Under the National Environment Awareness Campaign
Organized by: Balmaitri Shishu Sansthan Trust
We are launching a unique initiative using traditional puppetry and street drama to raise environmental and social awareness in rural communities. This campaign will train local youth and women to use storytelling for educating others on key issues like waste management, water conservation, women’s rights, and child safety.
Aligned with our mission — Save Child, Save Village, Save Nature — the program aims to empower villagers, especially women, to become educators and cultural leaders, helping build self-reliant, eco-conscious communities.

neelkanth sewa sansthan charitable hospital
Serving Humanity Beyond Walls
In a time when no medical facilities were available in our rural region, Balmaitri Shishu Sansthan Trust took the initiative to establish the Neelkanth Sewa Sansthan Charitable Hospital. It became a lifeline for the medically challenged and underserved communities, offering essential healthcare services right at their doorstep.
Today, even with the establishment of a government hospital nearby, our mission of “Seva Parmo Dharma” (Service is the highest virtue) continues.
We have transitioned from static healthcare to mobile compassion, now organizing free multi-specialty medical camps in collaboration with renowned hospitals and philanthropic trusts. These camps provide:
- Comprehensive Health Checkups
- Eye Screening & Free Cataract Surgeries
- Dental Examinations and Treatments
- General Physician Consultations
- Health Awareness and Nutrition Counseling
Our camps reach out to school children, elderly villagers, and underserved families, ensuring that no one is left behind in the journey to wellness.
We bring together teams of compassionate doctors and surgeons, who perform surgeries and treatments absolutely free of cost, restoring not just health—but hope.
Together with our volunteers and partners, we strive to build a healthier village, stronger society, and compassionate world—one patient at a time.

🌿 Padayatra for Nature
A Journey of Hope, Awareness & Action
Balmaitri Shishu Sansthan Trust believes that saving nature is saving our future. With that mission in our hearts and determination in our steps, we undertake Padayatra — a heartfelt journey on foot to connect with rural communities, inspire action, and protect our natural heritage.
🚶♂️ What is Padayatra?
Padayatra is not just a walk—
It’s a movement.
It’s a message.

🌳 Go Green Movement
Plantation for Protection & Prosperity
At Balmaitri Shishu Sansthan Trust, our commitment to “Save Village, Save Nature” is deeply rooted in the soil we protect and the trees we plant. Through our Go Green Plantation Campaign, we are not just growing trees—we are growing resilience, shade, and sustainability for generations to come.
🌱 What We Do:
🛣️ Roadside Plantation for Shade & Comfort
We plant trees along rural roads to:
- Provide shade to travelers and school children walking long distances
- Improve air quality and reduce road dust
- Create a scenic and green corridor through villages
🧱 Landslide-Resistant Plantation
In hilly and disaster-prone zones, we plant trees and shrubs to:
- Strengthen soil structure and prevent erosion
- Protect villages from landslides during monsoon
- Build natural barriers using native vegetation
🍎 Orchard Development – Fruits for the Future
We cultivate diverse orchards with varieties of:
- Mango, Guava, Amla, Lemon, Papaya, Banana, and more
- Supporting nutrition, livelihood, and eco-tourism potential
- Engaging schoolchildren and farmers in orchard care and fruit harvesting
🌿 Why It Matters:
Our plantation drives are more than environmental efforts—they are community-building green revolutions. They bring people together, educate children about nature, and offer long-term protection to both livelihood and landscape.
💚 “Planting a tree today is a promise to the earth—and to our children.”
Balmaitri Shishu Sansthan Junior High School
Save Child, Save Village, Save Nature
Rishi and Usha began the Balmaitri School and Children’s Home. On July 15, 1990 in a small hut on the side of a remote road
Balmaitri School was opened with only 7 students. The school is now brimming with eager students and Rishi and Usha have given these children and consequently their villages, the opportunity to change their lives, improve conditions in their villages and to help mother nature sustain us all.
The Balmaitri School and Children’s Home is located 18 km from Luxman Jhula near Rishikesh in the state of Uttarakhand, northern India. The school focuses on providing education to children from rural backgrounds. Thirty five children live in including orphans or children from single parent homes and all the children are from very poor backgrounds. Approximately 140 children attend the school daily from several surrounding villages, some walking up to 10 kms each day to reach the school. A contribution to school fees depends on the family’s ability to pay. Most families pay only a nominal amount or don’t pay at all.
